EDTS 234 Practicum
Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Center
Grade 3 -- Medicine Hat
My first practicum experience began at Dr. Roy Wilson Learning Centre from September 2021 to April 2022. I was placed in a grade 3 classroom, scheduled to spend three hours with them every Tuesday morning. I spent most of my time overserving my mentor teacher while only helping out during work periods. In March of 2022 I was given the opportunity to teach the students a lesson. I can be seen here marking the activity sheet after returning home.
EDTS 371 Practicum
South View Community School
Grade 6 -- Medicine Hat
My Second practicum experience began at South View Community School from January 2023 to March 2023. I was placed in a grade 6 classroom, on Wednesday mornings! I worked with the students as a class and one-on-one to improve their skills in literacy. This was a very diverse classroom with many ELL students, allowing me to gain enriching perspectives towards the teaching of the English language. I lead the students through two lessons, both revolving around the importance of poetry. For one of the lessons the students were able to create their own poems, with varying formats. This is a student example of Blackout Poetry using an extended metaphor!
